Although it may seem fairly obvious why we need parking and safety signs, there are many uses of these signs that you may not be aware of. Parking signs are used in many applications to create order and keep people and property safe. These signs are used to communicate state, federal or private property regulations, as well as consequences of not following parking policies. State and federal regulated parking and safety signs are posted by towns or municipalities, while private property signs are posted only by private property owners.

Common Applications of Parking Signs

Parking safety signs that communicate state or federal regulations are usually associated with the violations indicated on the signs. Here are a few examples of parking signs and where you might find them.

• Parking signs at bus stops and stands. These parking signs ban vehicles from parking at bus stops in order to allow clearance for buses and passengers boarding and getting off of buses.

• Loading and unloading zone parking signs. Often times facilities will have areas specified for loading and unloading. These areas need to remain clear so that loading and unloading can take place efficiently and safely.

• Time limit zone parking signs

• Handicapped or disabled parking signs are designed to reserve parking for individuals who need easy access to buildings. Anyone who violates handicapped parking regulations will be fined up to $500, depending on the state they are located in.

• Road signs that read "No Parking," "No Parking Any Time" or any other parking-related road signs, help control traffic and enforce parking regulations. Often times, violators of these signs will receive a parking ticket.

• Fire Lane / Zone parking signs prohibit parking in certain areas marked in yellow with words like "Fire Lane No Parking" or "Fire Zone No Parking."

• Controlled parking zones require parking and safety signs to make sure restricted parking areas remain clear.

There are hundreds of different types of parking and safety signs available, but all of them serve the same purposes. These parking and safety signs create order and promote the safety of people and property. Using parking signs on your roads, in parking lots and on your private property, can greatly reduce confusion, accidents and enable people to have the access they need to roadways and buildings.
